Inspired by both realism and fantasy, my art fluctuates across this spectrum with subjects drawn from either the objective outer world or my subjective inner world, most often a combination of the two. If I had to be labeled, I could best be described as a magical realist. Pulling from my imagination, vivid and sometimes spontaneous symbolic abstractions prevail. In other works, capturing the physical world by observing it and rendering it with faithful precision is the goal.
Regardless of the subject, my artwork is an act of reverence for what I “see” and it springs from both tapping intuition and cultivating artistic technique. There is a science to it, in the desire to portray a visible thing, but never without a strong dose of my own interpretation as I strive to continually reach for something just beyond the visible.
